If one has watched the news over the past year, it is highly likely they have scene news of the Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock divorce. It has been highly contentious and newsworthy. And, another recent ruling upholds the couple’s prenuptial agreement, has shown Omaha, Nebraska, residents the power of prenups.

Happier beginnings

Originally, the two met back in 2006 when Ms. Clarkson was singing a duet with Rascal Flatts for the Academy of Country Music Awards. Mr. Blackstock was Rascal Flatts’ tour manager, and the two dated for a long time until marrying in 2013. The couple were soon blessed with two children, a son and daughter.

The beginning of the divorce litigation

After about seven years of marriage, Ms. Clarkson, citing irreconcilable differences, filed for divorce. There is no official word on what the specific irreconcilable differences were, but according to Us Weekly sources, Mr. Blackstock was jealous, and he routinely let Ms. Clarkson know. They also said the couple has been having issues for a long time.

Then, prenup enforcement

Soon after though, the family court judge upheld the couple’s prenup, which cut Ms. Clarkson’s responsibility. It also allowed her to keep much more of her estate. After all, had the prenup not been enforced, it is likely Mr. Blackstock would be entitled to a significantly larger piece of her estate.

Most recent win

Most recently, on October 1, the Superior Court judge found that the couple’s three Montana properties, including their ranch that was prominently displayed on her talk show, belong to Ms. Clarkson. The judge found this because the properties were solely titled in her name, and according to the prenup, that meant it was Ms. Clarkson’s.

The takeaway

For Omaha, Nebraska, residents, the key takeaway is that prenups work, and they are valuable. They ensure that cooler heads prevail because they are crafted at a time when the couple is in love, prior to any bad feelings.
